Consultation period closes, responses being analysed.

Many thanks to everyone that has responded to our consultation over the past month.  We have had over 20 responses – some in favour, some raising objections, and others simply making comments about mussel farming in the eastern Menai Strait.

We are now reviewing and analysing all of these responses.  If you have contacted us you should already have had an acknowledgement of your response.  Where substantial comments have been made we will get back in touch to discuss the comments in more detail.

We will be making a report on the consultation and its outcome at our next MSFOMA meeting in June.  That meeting will decide how best to proceed with our application for a new Fishery Order to protect the future of the shellfish industry in the Menai Strait.

Later this year we plan to write to the new Minister and ask them to take the next step in the application process.  The Minister has the discretion to approve or refuse the application, or alternatively to call a Public Inquiry.

We will post updates on progress on our website here and also on Twitter.  In the meantime, if you have any comments or queries about the consultation and the next steps in this process, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us.
